Skoda D-1

History

The only aircraft produced in serious under the trade mark Skoda was the fighter plane Skoda D-1. It's origine was type Devoitine D-21C1 which licence was bought. Teh deal was closed in 1925 but due to problems with a new technology the aircraft (altogether only 26 machines)left faktory only during the years 1928/29 when it was already oudated by new Czech designs.

Aircraft served shortly served with the fighter squadrons of 4th. Wing and during 1931/32 were in the Flying School in Prostejov and later five of them were handed over to newly established Police Air Patrols. In 1937 returned two aircraft from PAP to Air Force and in 1939 were definitelz written off.

The machines from Skoda factory was equiped with Skoda made copy of HS50 engine instead of original engine HS 12Gb that were bigger so the aircraft had different panels, The arnament was limited to two Vickers machine guns (instead of four guns of the original French design).

Technical data

Single-seat, single-engine, parasol. Metal fuselage frame covered with dural panels. Metal wing and tail frame covered with fabric. Interesting is that some of the machines had suports of the elevator and some not. The liquid cooled engine powered two-blade metal propeller, but there are photographes of the aircraft with wooden propeler as well Fixed undercarriage with tail skid.
